Can Milk Assist Your Workout Program?
“Got milk?”. “Milk does a body good. Pass it on”. So on and so forth. We’ve heard and seen the ads in praise of milk for health reasons, such as building stronger bones and helping you make strides if you are taking on a workout routine. So, especially if you are a naturally skinny individual that are trying to gain muscular weight, you are going to want to use any possible technique or method that will help you reach those goals naturally and as genetically quick as possible. The question is, then, can milk help you build muscle mass?
A study from McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, found that male participants who regularly drank skim milk after their workout routine for 3 months gained 40 percent more muscle mass than those who drank fat free soy milk and 60% more than carbohydrate drinkers, according to the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.
Here’s my issue with studies like this and the claims they make. Someone reading this study can easily think that all they have to do in addition to being consistent with intense weight training and other eating factors is simply begin drinking skim milk and they will gain a lot more muscle mass. However, that’s not the case. There’s much more that this study doesn’t reveal that is needed to see the complete picture.
Those that built more muscle mass….was it the skim milk, or where they also eating more overall calories than the other groups?
Those that gained more muscle weight…was it the skim milk, or were they incorporating more effective workout programs?
Those that ended up with more lean tissue…was it the skim milk, or were they a lot more consistent with their training frequency?
Those that gained more muscle…was it the skim milk, or did they simply train a lot harder than the other two groups?
You see what I mean? None of these crucial factors are answered in this study, so it would not be wise that automatically think that the deciding factor was the skim milk. And you, my friend, shouldn’t expect that the only missing piece to your physique building body is to simply add skim milk.
